What to ensure your essay is submitted and accepted?
Dear KSA applicant;
Please take a moment and read important information on the guidelines and requirements needed to apply to our KSA Award Scholarship. Failure to submit as instructed will result in your essay being ineligible for the award.
There are two categories in this scholarship and only the first 100 essays in each category will be accepted. Applicants will only be competing within their respective categories.
Plagiarism is cause for immediate ineligibility. The most frequent reasons students become ineligible for the award are: Plagiarism, insufficient word count, and not following prompt instructions. Scholarship application open from January 1st - March 31st, 2023.
Category 1 - High School Senior
Requirements and Supporting Documents
- Must be a current high school senior
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Current Unofficial Transcript
- Copy of your SAR Report from your FAFSA application
- Completion of application which includes a media usage waiver
- Submission of essay in PDF format responding to prompt on the application with a minimum word count of 1,000
Category 2 - HBCU Freshman Requirements and Supporting Documents
- Must be a current HBCU Freshman
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Current Unofficial Transcript
- Copy of your SAR Report from your FAFSA application
- Completion of application which includes a media usage waiver
- Submission of essay in PDF format responding to prompt on the application with a minimum word count of 1,000
Optional Documents for Consideration
We encourage ALL applicants to submit any of the supporting documents below along with their application and essay.
*These are optional and lack of submission will not affect your possibility of receiving the scholarship.
- Financial need letter from the schools Financial Aid Department.
- Copy of balances owed to the school.
- Financial Hardship letter from the student describing any special circumstance.
- Reference letter; In requesting a recommendation or reference letter, you may ask your endorser to include any information which may apply; Financial hardships that you may be facing, character references, academic excellence, and any other information you deem relevant. Make sure you are requesting references and recommendations from legitimate individuals such as your Pastor, Attorney, Doctor, Teacher/lecturer, Principal, a manager, community or club leader to name a few.
Announcement of Winners and Disbursement of Funds
Winners are announced each year during the month of April and you will be contacted via the information provided on the application, please make sure you are providing the most updated information.
Disbursement of funds will be made directly to the school, there will be no check or payments made directly to any student under any circumstance.

Failure to submit any of the required information or documents will result in your application being disqualified.
